Business Events Canada is the division of Destination Canada charged with bringing meetings, conventions and incentive travel (MC&IT) programs to Canada.
The remote sales team’s responsibility is to promote Canada as the leading destination to host business events to targeted decision makers and to drive qualified business opportunities to partners through strong sales tactics.
We have an exciting opportunity for a strong communicator with a keen eye for project management to guide our remote BEC sales team. Reporting to the Executive Director, BEC, the Director of Sales and Marketing, Business Events Canada, based in Washington, DC, will be responsible for overseeing the BEC sales team while attracting partnership investment and managing sales in the Washington Metropolitan region.

You guide performance through well set sales goals, regular evaluations, and mentorship. You can navigate any CRM with your eyes closed and have no trouble jumping into new technology. Project and financial management are second nature to you, allowing you to effectively assign resources to meet strategic goals.
Duties: Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Events Canada (BEC) the Director of Sales and Marketing, BEC is responsible for leading BEC’s virtual, remotely based sales team and managing the implementation of a multi-million dollar, pro-active, integrated sales and marketing program designed to produce incremental meeting, convention and incentive business to Canada from the U.S., while attracting overall matching partnership investment for the promotion of Canada as a premier business events destination. The incumbent is also responsible for direct selling with the target accounts in the Washington Metropolitan region.
Education: University education or equivalent experience.
Experience: When applying, the candidate must clearly demonstrate in writing how they meet the following experience criteria:
10 years of business travel industry sales experience including Hotel or Convention Centre Sales experience in a variety of market segments (Association, Corporate, Incentive).
Minimum of 5 years of human resources management experience.
Minimum of 5 years of developing, delivering and reporting performance of integrated marketing & sales plans.
3-5 years of experience in regional tourism sales in the Washington Metropolitan region
A solid track record in establishing and maintaining excellent partner relationships and success.
Strong experience in developing and managing budgets.
Experience in negotiating with suppliers and external vendors.
Active participant in US-based MC&IT industry associations is an asset.
Management of remote sales teams is an asset.
In-depth knowledge of Canada’s tourism infrastructure and major tourism destinations and products within Canada.
Thorough knowledge of the American MC&IT marketplace, its structure and organization, particularly as it relates to the Canadian meetings and incentive industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of Washington Metropolis region with established relationships in the destination marketing arena.
Strong technology aptitude and a good working knowledge of Microsoft applications and CRM platforms.
Excellent human resource management and leadership skills.
Strong program and financial management skills.
Strong sales management experience including successful track record in achieving sales targets and goals.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Strong negotiation skills.
A high level of motivation and the ability to think creatively.

Fluent English language skills required. Working knowledge of French and Spanish are considered an asset.
Ability to travel internationally (Canada and abroad), and domestically (within the USA) is required.
