Association Management firm in Washington, DC is looking for a Director of Marketing and Communications to serve as the lead communications professional for our trade association clients, specifically those in the food industries. The Director is a highly collaborative member of the client service team who works across multiple departments to facilitate integrated communications, branding and messaging across channels.
The Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the lead marketing and communications professional for the client association. Guided by the client association’s strategic plan goals, objectives and strategies, the Director tells the story of the client organization and the unique value proposition to inspire a range of stakeholders to engage within our trade association and with the designated public.
The Director is responsible for integrated marketing & communications, the brand experience, event promotion, messaging development, visual identity maintenance and application, and multi-channel communication and management. Works closely and collaboratively with all internal stakeholders.
Marketing & Communications
Develop an annual marketing communications plan that prioritizes audiences, identifies outcomes and measures success
Leveraging of brand through all communication channels, including events, ads, websites, collateral, social media, multimedia, signage, and other communication channels
Create impactful messages on the client association story, as well as the value of membership and the client association products and services for priority audiences; oversee the implementation of those messages across all materials and communications.
Manage the ongoing expansion of the client association website to include social media and new media offerings such as video, podcasts, webinars and other digital communications
Drive marketing efforts for the client association’s Fall Symposium, Annual Conference, Winter Regulatory and Policy Meeting, and other events to increase attendance and support the client association value proposition
Management of the client association website to include overseeing updates, enhancements such as video, and other applicable digital communications
Work with the client association staff to implement and manage collaborative strategies to communicate the critical role of programs to the consumer media, trade press, news media, industry and government audiences
Manage the development and creation of all news materials
Serve as the liaison with the media to advance the client association’s awareness goals and efforts to work with stakeholders
Collaborate on the client association’s crisis communications planning to identify areas of vulnerability and offer templates that help the organization and industry respond to emerging and/or potential crises
Monitor media coverage of the client association and its members, produce reports of communications activities and track coverage and issues as needed
Oversee staff and vendors as part of managing the client association’s new website
Manage and direct communications staff to: ensure consistency in communications products, plan communications campaigns, meet budget goals, and organize a communications calendar
Provide staff support to the client association committees
Exemplary Communication Proficiency
Superb Collaboration Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
10+ years demonstrated excellence in integrated marketing communications, media relations, corporate communications and/or public affairs
5+ years in food, health, nutrition, trade associations, and/or medical industry preferred
Relationship builder – able to work as a team member, provide courteous service to internal and external clients
Superior written and oral communications
Consistently demonstrate cooperative attitude – assumes responsibility, is flexible in working with others
Demonstrates a commitment to follow-through; results orientation
