The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant for Sports Marketing.
Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director, the Graduate Assistant for Sports Marketing will assist with the development and implementing of marketing materials and initiatives to promote WMU’s Athletics programs.
Primary Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Craft new and innovative ways to attract students, alumni and the general public to home football, volleyball, hockey and men’s and women’s basketball games.
Manage and promote selected WMU marketing social media accounts.
Manage the WMU Athletics Student Rewards program.
Use and develop correspondence, such as campus-wide e-mail, promotional handouts, Facebook, Twitter and social networking, to connect with students to increase attendance at home athletic events.
Manage and assist with in-game on-field/court promotions at all assigned home events.
Supervise student event staff at home events on game day.
Develop and execute marketing and promotional plans as well as game day production for sports assigned.
Office hours and event coverage are required and includes work on assigned nights and weekends.
Deploy street teams to distribute schedule cards, posters, etc. on campus and in the community.
Comply with the rules, policies and regulations of the Division, University, Mid-American Conference and NCAA.
Bachelor’s degree in athletics administration, sport management or marketing. Currently enrolled or accepted into the WMU Graduate Sport Management program by the fall of 2017.
One year or more of experience in a university sports marketing office.

The chosen candidate will begin their employment as a temporary employee on or about May 1, 2017. Application will be made to the graduate sport management program in the Department of Human Performance and Health Education and commence taking classes during the Fall, 2017 semester, Expected graduation is April, 2019. The successful candidate will receive remission and a monthly stipend.
