This is an exempt position in the Century City office. Under the general direction of the Senior Business Development Manager, Litigation and according to established firm policies and procedures, the Marketing and Business Development Specialist is responsible for supporting an integrated approach to all marketing and business development activities across the firm's Litigation practice. This position works collaboratively with practice leadership and Marketing and Business Development professionals on key projects to ensure coordination, effective engagement with Marketing Operations resources, consistency of approach and high-quality execution of initiatives. The position maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters.
The Business Development Specialist will be expected to work proactively with the Senior Business Development Manager, Litigation and lawyers in the practice to help create and implement business development and marketing strategies that assist in developing new client relationships, deepening and expanding existing relationships and enhancing brand recognition for the practice.

Support Senior Business Development Manager, Litigation in driving all aspects of cross selling and new business development.
Develop relationships with target industry associations (as identified in the practice branding plan) to identify leadership/advisory board positions, speaking and conference presentation opportunities and sources of referral for the practice.
Draft, edit and proof marketing collateral materials, including slide decks, letters, event invitations, proposal documents, and lawyer biographies.
Serve as a primary point of contact for production and assembly of customized marketing packages and promotional materials.
Liase with attorneys and secretaries in support of the creation and maintenance of practice marketing content and contact lists in the firm’s client relationship management (CRM) database.
Liase with attorneys in support of the creation and maintenance of practice experience lists; coordinate with Marketing Operations professionals as needed.
Manage internal and external logistics for practice hosted and attended conferences, seminars (both live and via webcast) and receptions, as well as local functions for other practices and office functions, as necessary. Provide hands-on support and follow through on business development leads following efforts.
Research opportunities for external seminars/conferences where Litigation capabilities can be featured.
With information and guidance from Senior Business Development Manager, Litigation, oversee tracking of business development opportunities and monitor advancement and follow-up efforts.
Create and implement business development projects (e.g. client targeting exercises, etc.) and provide hands-on support and follow-up.
Assist with the development of pitches and Request for Proposal responses.
Provide support for cross-selling efforts implemented in conjunction with other firm practice groups and responsible attorneys.
Prepare and deliver detailed competitive intelligence and marketing research reports leveraging firmwide research tools and library resources. This may also include development of qualified prospect lists for certain marketing/client development initiatives, as well as background on competitors and prospective clients for business development purposes.
Leverage marketing technology tools such as InterAction and other knowledge management resources to support prospect identification and internal information sharing.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred and five to six years of marketing/event experience, preferably in a legal or professional services firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have excellent organizational and written skills, strong verbal communication skills, a high level of attention to detail and the capacity to work comfortably in a rapidly changing environment on multiple, ongoing projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff and outside vendors and contacts.
Computer proficient with excellent technological skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database management. Knowledge of InterAction and/or experience maintaining a Website a plus.
Must exhibit a high degree of initiative with excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and follow-through skills in order to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detailed-oriented work environment.
Must be a dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment. Must also be able to work well independently, manage projects and maintain communications with various constituencies.
Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, laser printer, telephone, photocopier, scanner, calculator, facsimile, etc.
Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute marketing/desktop publishing materials, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
The work environment is characteristic of a normal office environment with moderate exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
